Cafe de Turin, Nice 14/20

IMG_0905IN solidarity with everyone in Nice, this is an (even the) unassailable cornerstone of the city’s restaurants, almost immune to fashion, robust enough on the corner of the main square place Garibaldi  to accommodate locals and tourists equally. There is a story to these oysters…

IMG_0910Down on the Bassin de Marennes-Oléron, an old fisherman Jean Roumegous brought his son Jules into the oyster business back in 1891. And it is still in the same family through Eugene, Alphonse, Jean, Francois, Adrien and Jules and this is where a lot of them are sold. Adrien has posted a video here and a rather more informative one on oysters here but i cannot vouch for his musical taste.IMG_0909_1

The menu is a shellfish dictionary – to eat in or takeaway, but there is also a daily menu du jour which naturally also includes a fish soup at 13.50 euros and a few racy innovations like a salad of red mullet cooked in the tandoor.
